This is a good set of maximes, however it can be shortened to three:
1. know thyself,
2. whit brains and faith you can achieve almost anything,
3. do not make yourself unhappy.
Any comments?

I support what you are saying, but it is also based on who you know. You can not make someone hire you; Even if you have a PhD.
