From the perspective of a citizen of the United States, the lack of scientific and technology knowledge of the Executive Branch's political appointees (who dominate policy making) and the elected legislators and their staffs in Congress is appalling.

It is also old news.

In the United States, a person can be considered "educated" who knows little math beyond arithmetic, and very little biology, physics, chemistry, or geology. This being the case, the electorate does not expect better of its elected policy makers. One of the results of this is that the State of Kansas dictated teaching "creation science" in public school science classes.
