Venture capitalist Esther Dyson is the chairman of EDventure Holdings, which publishes the influential monthly computer-industry newsletter Release 1.0 as well as the blog Release 4.0. The company also organizes the high-profile technology conference PC (Platforms for Communications) Forum, March 21-23, 2004. I'm not fond of seeing 'experts' get credit for saying what is obvious, but Ms Dyson hit the nail on the head with her last paragraph on education.

It isn't about test scores; it is about being able to think. And, thinking is often evidenced by being slightly contrarian - asking questions, providing alternatives, being skeptical, and knowing how to use language.

Maybe she should try to convince the powers in government to understand this.
