A computing visionary and leader of the movement to define and elucidate the ³great principles of computing,² Peter J. Denning is a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is a former president of the ACM.

I think a possible hint to the priciples of Information Processing as a science could be the definition of Norbert Wiener for "Cybernetics":

Cybernetics is communication and control in the animal and the machine.

Some of the old ideas of cybernetics should be reread for Information Processing Principles of today.
