  Request A New List

Use the form on this page to request new mailing lists. Once your list is created, you can use the Listserv Wizard functionality to refine the list key words and list template as needed. Complete list headers are also acceptable. They may be submitted to ishelpdesk@hq.acm.org. Questions and requests may also be sent to ishelpdesk@hq.acm.org.

We recommend prefixing the name of each of your subunit's lists with a constant abreviation identifying your unit. For example, every SIGCHI list is prefixed with "CHI-".

Description:
We recommend putting the name of your subunit at the beginning the title e.g. "ACM SIGCHI" or "GBC/ACM" (Greater Boston Chapter of the ACM).

List alias:
(max. length 128)
This is the email address you will use for sending out emails to your list.

Subscriptions: "By Owner": Subscriptions are forwarded to the list owner for approval.
"Open": Anyone can join
"Closed": No one can join; only the list owner can subscribe people


Senders: "Public": Anyone can post a message to the list.
"Editors/Moderators": Messages posted from non-editors are forwarded (round-robin) to moderators for approval. Note that it is possible to make all subscribers editors, in which case only messages from non-subscribers are moderated. Such a list is called self-moderated.
"Owners": Only the list owners can post to the list.
"Private": Only subscribers can post to the list.

Reply-To: "Sender": Replies are sent to the original sender (i.e. the address the message was posted from).
"List": Replies are sent back to the entire list.

Review: "Private": Subscribers may review list subscriptions.
"Owner": Only the list owners can review the list subscriptions.
"Public": Anyone can review the list subscriptions.

Confidential: "No": The list will appear in the list directory. It will also appear in the global listserv database and in the CataList service.
"Yes": The list will not appear in the list directory.
"Service": The list will appear in the ACM list directory, but not in the global database.The service area for the list will be set to "Internet".

List Archive: "No": Messages posted to the list will not be archived.
"Monthly"
"Weekly"
"Yearly"

List Digests: "No": List digests are not available.
"Monthly": Requires list archives.
"Weekly": Requires list archives.
"Yearly": Requires list archives.

* All list Owners must obtain a personal password from Listserv. Please go to http://listserv.acm.org to log in. Use your list owner's email to set up your login.
